Maritime Museum - ''The Firth Museum''

December 2014 – June 2015

Overview -

The primary objectives set for the project were as follows:

• Rejuvenate the surrounding area, which is currently in a deprived state.

• Create an iconic building that will improve the economy in the Highlands, as well as become a national architectural landmark.

Functionality -
The Firth Museum is a proposed 2000sqm museum located at Inverness Marina. The museum's main feature is the approach, which is designed to imitate the form of a propeller in the water. This propeller form also serves as the main roof structure for the building's entrance, which incorporates an open plan full height space, also providing large areas suited for grand exhibition pieces.
A 200 seat auditorium and 150 seat cafe also serve as part of the main floor space, providing excellent venue opportunities, along with a large shop situated on the first floor. The main shop floor and cafe dining area face towards the Beauly and Moray Firth, providing excellent panoramic views. The buildings main cladding comprises of terracotta rainscreen panels, juxtaposed against the ultra modern sleek finish of the propeller roof. Light fixtures bordering around the museum's curtain walls create a dramatic impact against the Inverness skyline at night.
